Year 6 Devon Adventure:
Day 3
What a great day we have had! The weather has improved and we enjoyed some lovely sunshine today.
Following another hearty cooked breakfast, the children headed out on the river in kayaks or pushed themselves out of their comfort zones on the high ropes. The leap of faith proved very popular and there were some children who were very proud of themselves!
The highlight of the afternoon was surfing! After clambering into wetsuits, the children demonstrated their teamwork skills once again, collaborating to carry the surfboards down to the water’s edge. The tide was out at the beach, so this proved to be a real challenge with a very lengthy walk, but it was well worth it. After some initial instructions, the children soon showed their skills with catching the waves. The smiles didn’t leave their faces and they persevered until they were successful! “Miss Chambers, did you see that? That was my best one yet!” were the screams heard above the noise of the waves!
Dinner consisted of Chicken Tikka Masala, a vegetarian curry, fish cakes or noodles and the children ate well. It has been lovely to see the children trying new foods: “I can now tell my mum I like Chicken Tikka Masala as well as Chicken Korma.”
Excitement was brewing for 8pm as the children headed out to the campfire or to play wide games. Following some campfire games, they enjoyed toasting marshmallows before many of them dashed back inside to watch England beat the Netherlands! There were some lost voices by the end of the evening, as well as some very excited but tired children!
For those who didn’t fancy watching the game, we went for a walk up a steep hill towards the side of our Devon Adventure, where we sat and played cards and watched the sun set, something which the children thoroughly enjoyed: “Can we go back and watch it again tomorrow night?” was asked by many! Obviously rolling back down the hill after the sun had set was inevitable, before we ended the evening curled up in pyjamas under duvets in the common room playing more card games.
It’s the last full day tomorrow and there will be some sad children wishing they could stay longer!
