Year 6 Devon Adventure:

Day 4

Today, our last full day on our Devon Adventure, began with a delicious breakfast of scrambled egg, bacon, warm pastries, fruit and cereals. Following this, the children split up and either went to climb along the high ropes course or went river rafting. They were pleased it was the last time they had to struggle with putting on wetsuits (aided by the school adults!), but the disappointment was also there, knowing this was one of their final activities. After a short minibus ride to the river, the children excitedly grabbed their oars and jumped into the rafts, showcasing their knowledge from kayaking earlier in the week. We were so lucky with the weather, the tides and the current, meaning the children had the opportunity to jump off the raft into the river and splash each other, as well as racing to the finishing line!

After lunch, the children either went to play beach games or on a seashore trail looking for crabs, underwater wildlife and sea glass. One child found over 50 pieces, the majority of which were white. Despite the groans when being teased by the instructor, Beau, that they had a 32 mile hike to get to the beach, once there, the children thoroughly enjoyed having some time together in the beautiful sunshine building sculptures, creating underground tunnels and even burying each other! A sofa was sculpted from the sand, as well as a sea turtle, a heart filled with pebbles and even the faces of Miss Chambers and Mr Norton!

Upon returning to base, the children enjoyed a BBQ with burgers, hotdogs, chicken drumsticks, corn on the cob and much more, before changing into their disco outfits and partying the night away! We saw some fantastic dance moves and the children’s voices must be sore from all the singing!

The cases and bags have now reluctantly been packed and the children look forward to climbing and abseiling, rafting or a seashore trail on their final morning here in Devon. We will all leave with heavy hearts, wishing we could have another week here together, creating more precious memories.

Without exception, the children’s behaviour has been exemplary throughout and each and every one of them should be so proud of everything they have accomplished. They have learnt some new skills which we know will set them up well for a great future ahead of them.
