Year 5 blog:
Our focus in writing this half term is ‘Life Below Water’. We had a visit from the Final Straw Foundation who highlighted the impact plastic pollution has on our environment and our oceans. We researched the importance of the ocean to our world and used our knowledge to write a powerful speech that highlights the threats to our oceans.
Multiplication has been the focus in maths so far this half term. We made a great start by exploring the difference between factors and multiples. Times tables have played a huge part in this learning and it has been great to see the children applying these facts fluently.
In Science, we learnt about the Earth and Space. We enjoyed learning about the eight planets in our solar system and discovering unique facts about each of them. We explored the moon’s phases and why it looks different throughout each month. Our most recent focus has been the relationship between the Earth and the Sun and understanding how day and night occurs and the apparent movement of the sun across the sky.
