Our Year 2 children have had a fabulous return to school and have showcased their resilience, determination and perseverance skills when tackling the new learning challenges presented to them.

 Writing

What is your grandma like?  Is she kind and caring and gives you treats?  Or is she ‘a selfish grumpy old woman…with pale brown teeth and a small puckered up mouth like a dog's bottom’?  Well, we have met George who has a grandma just like this!  Our Year 2 have empathised with George and have begun mixing different household items to turn Grandma around.

 Using a variety of imperative verbs, including ‘whisk’, ‘grate’, ‘sieve’ and ‘pour’, the children have explored how to write clear, cohesive instructions using the grammatical skills they learnt in year one: “Gently squeeze the oozing, white toothpaste into the medicine pot and your Grandma’s teeth will shine like the stars”.

 

Science

Do you dream of being the next Albert Einstein or Sir Isaac Newton?  Do you have the skills required to step into the shoes of these great scientists?

 Our Year 2 children have started to explore the different skills scientists use when carrying out scientific investigations.  They have started by developing their observational skills and using these to think deeply and ask scientific questions.  Did you know rice can dance?  This is what they have observed so far.
