MP Darren Paffey:
We were thrilled to welcome MP Darren Paffey to Bitterne Park Primary School this week, as part of our UK Parliament Week celebrations. Mr Paffey is the local MP for Southampton Itchen, and Bitterne Park Primary is within his constituency.
Both our Reading Ambassadors and Eco Warriors had written to Mr Paffey this half term, regarding his views on Cobbett Road Library, the National Literacy Trust's Review on Reading for Pleasure and the issues with the sewage system and waterworks in the local area. He was very impressed with our children's letters and agreed to meet with our pupils in person as part of UK Parliament Week.
Mr.Paffey met with both groups of pupils, who presented to Mr Paffey with such enthusiasm and confidence, and with great knowledge and passion about their respective causes. You can see both presentations that the children worked on and delivered below. He was very impressed with the standard of the children's presenting and their oracy skills!
The children posed many different questions to Mr Paffey, including asking about supporting with a Southampton Literacy Festival to promote reading, about sanctions for Southern Water around sewage, about the best parts of the House of Commons and even about what the Prime Minister is like to work with!
It was fantastic to meet our local MP and to find out more about his role in Parliament and how he represents our local community and presents our views. Darren Paffey was very proud of our commitment to become 'Architects of a Better World' and we know that by working closely with our local MP we can create change for the better in our local community.
